Crowdfunding: una herramienta de múltiples usos


Al final de enero tuvo lugar el primer taller sobre “Crowdfunding: financiando ideas, emprendedores e instituciones, el mercado para América Latina” organizado por el FOMIN. Con este primer taller queríamos disponer de un espacio donde analizar la situación del Crowdfunding en el mundo y, sobre todo, en América Latina así como entender qué modelos se han consolidado. No menos importante fue el entender cómo un organismo multilateral puede aprovechar esta nueva herramienta para promover el empleo y el aumento de ingresos de manera más inclusiva.

Haiti: Where do we stand on the road from aid to investment?


Two weeks ago, I attended the Haiti Funders’ Meeting, which was held in Boston, sponsored by the Boston Foundation and the Kellogg Foundation. The purpose of the meeting was to learn from experiences and talk about effective practices in Haiti, as well as challenges and opportunities in supporting sustainable development, social investments and philanthropy. The conference was held over two days, and included plenary sessions on topics such as social impact investing and effective aid delivery, and smaller, more focused discussion groups on health care, nutrition, agriculture, enterprise development and finance.

A través de alianzas entre entidades de microfinanzas, proveedores de servicios y grupos de base comunitaria, se ofrecen productos integrados que permiten aumentar el acceso de estos servicios básicos para poblaciones de bajos ingresos.

What can a study about 1,118 Nepalese women living in slums tell us about rural community savings programs in Colombia?  Can we really compare such vastly different cultures, countries and contexts?  And yet, there may be some core behaviors that are relatively consistent across geographies. Indeed, cross-border learning has been a key feature of the rapid innovation in financial inclusion products for low income and poor people.

Haitian Artisans and MIF Partners at the New York Gift Fair

From January 26 to January 30, New York City hosted the Winter 2013 NY International Gift Fair (NYIGF). This semiannual trade show brings more than 2,800 exhibitors from around the world, and 35,000 attendees from over 80 countries. The exhibitors showcase over 100,000 products in 400 categories in the home, lifestyle and handmade industries. This is the second NYIGF where Haitian artisans who are part of the Artisan Business Network (ABN) had a chance to exhibit their work.
