Media Invitation to the 2013 Inter-American Forum on Microenterprise

Sep 4, 2013

WASHINGTON, 4 Sept. 2013—Members of the media are cordially invited to attend and cover this year's Inter-American Forum on Microenterprise (Foromic), one of the leading international forums on microenterprise and microfinance. The 16th annual Foromic will be held from September 30th to  October 2nd in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, under the theme of "The Productivity Challenge: Financing Dynamic Entrepreneurship."

Organized by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, in collaboration with the Government of Mexico, Foromic XVI will have 1500 participants, mainly investors and representatives from microfinance institutions, development agencies, consulting firms and government officials.

Topics to be discussed during Foromic XVI include innovation in financial inclusion products and services, financial education for youth, developing micro and small businesses, green finance, microinsurance, savings and remittances, financial responsibility, and financing dynamic enterprises. In addition, the Inter-American Awards for Financial and Entrepreneurial Innovation will be presented, including a local award for excellence and sustainability in Mexico's microenterprise sector.

On September 30th, the Secretariat of Economy, PRONAFIM and the State of Jalisco will host Mexico Day, which will analyze the growth and future of microfinance in Mexico, 15 years after the first edition of Foromic. It will also focus on how microfinance services have evolved from a client protection perspective, and on the institutional development of microfinance institutions.

The first Foromic conference, in 1998, was also held in Mexico. At that time, the region had just 205 microfinance institutions serving 1.5 million clients.  Today Latin America has become one of the most highly regarded microfinance sectors in the world, serving 15 million clients and providing US $19 billion in loans annually.

Journalists who are interested in attending Foromic XVI can register (by September 25th) at:
