The MIF opens application period for 2014 Inter-American Awards for Financial and Entrepreneurial Innovation

  • Awards recognize the achievements of institutions that support financial inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Award ceremony to take place at the XVII Foromic conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador

The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, has opened the application period for the 2014 Inter-American Awards for Financial and Entrepreneurial Innovation, which are given annually at Foromic, the Latin American and Caribbean’s leading event for supporting and financing microenterprises in the region.

This year, the XVII Foromic will be held November 4 - 6 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The MIF will look for organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the region’s development in three specific areas: financial inclusion, digital finance, and excellence and sustainability in Ecuadorian microenterprise.


Award for Financial Inclusion

This award will recognize an innovative and efficient financial institution that provides financial services to poor and low-income populations.  Find out more about the eligibility criteria and the application form here. The deadline for submissions is July 25th 2014.

Award for Digital Finance

This award will recognize innovation in the use of information and communications technology to expand financial inclusion and improve the quality, variety and affordability of credit, savings, payment, and microinsurance products. It will also identify outstanding initiatives from financial intermediaries, agent networks, technology, and communications companies, including mobile phone operators that provide digital finance solutions for low-income and poor populations in sectors such as health, education, and energy. Organizations can review the eligibility criteria and apply online here. The deadline for submissions is July 11th 2014.

Award for Excellence and Sustainability in Ecuadorian Microenterprise

This award will recognize the experience, organizational and innovative capacity of a local microenterprise. The award coordination and selection will be made by the Ministry of Industry and Productivity of Ecuador.

In 2013, during XVI Foromic in Guadalajara, Mexico, the winners included institutions from Bolivia, Brazil and Mexico.

ASCRI and BID-FOMIN sign a collaboration agreement with The Venture Capital & Private Equity Associations in France, Chile, Mexico, Argentina And Colombia

30 May 2018 . The Spanish Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (ASCRI), at its annual Conference held on 29 May, signed an agreement with BID-FOMIN and the Venture Capital & Private Equity Associations in France, Chile, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia. The objective of this alliance is to build bridges between both continents to promote bilateral investments, strengthen the business ecosystem and develop an information exchange platform.
