Thematic Areas

Our projects test new models for engaging and inspiring the
private sector to solve economic development problems in Latin
America and the Caribbean.

We focus our efforts in 3 main areas:

Climate-Smart Agriculture

By working with farmers and agro-industry the MIF is promoting efficient use of resources, implementing best practices and technologies, and adopting value chain approaches that increase market access and improve resilience. Approaches include boosting productivity; supporting mitigation efforts that reduce, avoid, or capture GHG emissions; and implementing adaptation strategies that prevent or minimize the damage caused by climate change.

Inclusive Cities

The MIF is improving the quality of life for poor and vulnerable households in urban areas to create inclusive cities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Approaches to doing so include improved urban services and climate change adaptation and mitigation, driven by small businesses, entrepreneurs, and public-private partnerships. Areas of engagement include sharing economy and circular economy models.

Knowledge Economy

We contribute to building the knowledge economy and promoting job creation by powering inclusive, tech-driven enterprise growth. The MIF generates opportunities for the poor and vulnerable through private sector innovation in LAC by strengthening the ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation; testing, investing in, and scaling tech-driven enterprises that solve social, economic, and environmental problems; and preparing a competitive workforce for 21st-century jobs.

The MIF is leveraging the power of an amazing
community of partners to solve the region’s most
pressing issues.
